end of the week exfoliation: free printer
November 18th, 2010     |    Style

(Update: Printer has been claimed!)

In honor of my old series, The End of the Week Exfoliation (each week for two years I got rid of one item in my home that I didn’t need, use, or love), I’m giving away a color printer I no longer need. With my new assistants, Melissa and Kat, we now need two to three computers at a time and a wireless printer. Which means this color printer is no longer needed.

If you live in the Chicago area and want to pick up this Cannon printer in Lakeview, please email me at jess@jesslc.com. The first person who emails and comes to pick it up gets it.

Okay, confession time: for some reason or another, my enthusiasm has been waning on the End of the Week Exfoliation posts for about a month or so. I thought it was just me being lazy (it can take me about 40 minutes to re-size the submission photos, upload comments, and add links for these posts). But really, I think it’s just time that I take the summer off and come back to this series in the fall. That said, I still definitely plan to exfoliate items in my life that aren’t needed/used/or loved any longer, and I hope that everyone else continues to do the same.

Plus I have a fun summer exfoliation challenge that I’m going to announce next week which will replace this series in June. I’ll give you a very obtuse clue: it has to do with bikini season.

End of the Week Exfoliation

“We have two spare rooms in our house– one of which has only been used a handful of times since we moved in 4 years ago.  So, we decided we’re going to change the room into something a little more useful.  We listed the full size mattress/box spring/frame and wrought-iron end table on Craigslist.  We had inquiries the next day!”

Abbie

“Here is to exfoliating!  Now, why do I need so many food containers…I don’t even cook.  Enough said.”

Eva
(see below)
My neighbourhood is having a big yard sale for Habitat for Humanity this weekend (http://planetpalmerston.blogspot.com/). I’ve got two big shopping bags worth of stuff to contribute, including 8 books, a Gilmore Girls dvd, high heeled boots that aren’t my style, a pair of heels that always give me blisters, a teal shade for a lamp I no longer have, a hat, novelty heart-shaped sunglasses, a kitchen scale (was given a new digital one), two photo albums, two picture frames, an alarm clock, a change purse, a laptop adaptor, earbud headphones, and a clothes drying rack. Feels great to get it all out of the apartment for a good cause!”
Jess
“A pile of clothing that didn’t fit anymore that went to a local consignment shop.”
“A pile of clothing that didn’t fit anymore that was donated.”

I have owned these two packs of folders for years and never found a use for them. If anyone in the Chicago area wants to come pick them up in Lakeview and give them a new life, let me know! They would cost more to ship than they are really worth.

Good morning! I hope you had a great weekend. The past few weekends I’ve decided to treat my days off like mini vacations and I have to say, I’ve been loving it. And since I’ve had trouble finishing the end of the week exfoliation post during the actual week, I’m a bit behind again. But here it is nonetheless.

I’m excited to share some new things coming up on MML this week including a trunk show at Macy’s tying into the Sex and the City movie on Thursday night. I’m also starting a new mini-series called “Designing a Business with Intention” (based on the feedback I got from readers a few weeks ago), so stay tuned!

End of the Week Exfoliation

“It hurts to see these go (I wore them just once to a wedding), but if hurts even MORE to keep them (ouch!)  These shoes deserve a more tolerant wearer! Size 7 1/2.”

Sarah

“The bed we listed on Craigslist sold, so we no longer need the full-size sheets and mattress pad.  Off they go to the yard sale pile!  At this rate, I am going to have one heck of a sale!”

Abbie

“This is a bridesmaid dress I wore in a wedding about two and a half years ago. It hits me in strange places and I haven’t worn it since. Plus, I already have a black dress I like. Hopefully this one finds a good home at the thrift store.”

Cathy

“2 printers. One was my husbands and he doesn’t have any of the cords or instructions or software for and another one that like the clothes have been in a box and moved but never used for the last 3 years. We have another one that was a hand-me down from my parents and we have yet to hook it up. It was just time to get rid of the other 2.”

Katherine

These shoes have been with me since college and since I just got a pair of white Converse shoes, these puppies gotta go.

Whew. I feel like I’ve been caught up in a tornado of activity and I’m just getting spit out of the busy vortex in the past few hours. But I better not get comfortable, there is a lot to accomplish this week (including a trunk show at Macy’s on Thursday/Friday, finishing a bunch of orders with Susie gone for half the week, picking a PR firm for Jess LC, and getting a few doctor appointments scheduled).

Despite the craziness, I have to say, I feel so thankful and I have a hard time believing that we are only four weeks from June…

Giveaway Giveaway Winner

This April’s Giveaway Giveaway winner is… Melissa! Congrats, lady, you win a copy of Speed Decorating by Jill Vegas and a $40 Jess LC gift certificate.

End of the Week Exfoliation

“A bag of old shoes that were taking up way too much room in my closet. These are just the shoes I am giving to goodwill. The rest found a home in the trash they were that bad.”

Katherine

“I found a gift card in our apartment to a restaurant in St. Louis. Since we don’t live there anymore, we gave the gift card to a friend who will be able to use it.”

Cathy

“Here is the beginning of another household exfoliation project. This time I left the closet and hit the “scary, hidden” corners of the rest of the house. Still working on it…”

Hilary

“I finally got rid of my old phone that was more frustrating than anything. I upgraded to an Iphone which means that I am finally able to exfoliate some other things in my life (ie. carrying around a separate Ipod & day planner). This has definitely helped me feel more organized & my purse lighter!”

Simone

“I cleaned out some random stuff that was never used in my daughters room. These things were added to my goodwill pile.”

Melissa

“This week I am getting more serious about getting rid of things. After listing over 300 things on Ebay, I am determined to keep going. All this tuff is making me anxious!”

Francesca

“When my husband and I were spring cleaning this weekend, we moved everything out of our entryway, including a bench with baskets of shoes underneath.  I knew that it was time to purge when my husband referred to me as Imelda Marcos.  I am getting rid of 12 pair just from under the bench!  Some will be listed on Ebay, and the others will go in our yard sale in June… all size 6 if there are any takers.  Frye cut-out boots (that are a bit snug on me, or I wouldn’t dream of parting with them), 2 pair of Chacos, suede flat boots, Banana Republic sandals and more…”

Abbie

Whenever I think “there is absolutely nothing more I can exfoliate,” I inevitably find something new to pass on. This week it is a book by Julie Morgenstern called Organizing from the Inside Out. Though I read it in college, I can’t exactly remember what it’s about. And I have a good hunch that I won’t pick it up and read it again. Anyone want it? First to comment and claim it gets it (just send me $5 via PayPal for shipping and it’s yours).

What a quiet weekend it’s been. With the rainy, gloomy weather, Erwin and I stayed inside most of the weekend. We ordered in pizza last night and today he’s at the Bulls/Cavs game with a friend. Which leaves me with a Sunday afternoon all to myself. I think the next few hours might just include baking banana bread (I’m going to try to add two or three over-ripe bananas to the Trader Joe Banana Bread mix I bought this morning, hopefully the result is a success).

End of the Week Exfoliation

“I will miss this pretty little dress, but I haven’t looked good in it since the reason I bought it: my college graduation.  Time to be honest with myself :)”

Diane

I got this in a concert goodie bag and have since wondered when it could be used.”

Jessica

“A box of old clothes that I have been moving from box to box and closet to closet without wearing or touching for at least 3 years. Time to say bye. Most of the tops are just too short…I have a long torso and never realized that there were certain clothes and tops that just didn’t work for my body. A few Halloween costumes are in there too.”

Katherine

“It was that time of year again…  I was amazed at how much I was willing to part with.  Clothing purge = hanger purge.”

Abbie

“Here is the rest of my Spring “cleansing” project. I tried to be very honest with my wardrobe decisions and I think I made some good progress. Afterwards, I took my stash of giveaway’s to some friends at church and I think they found some things that they could really use. It’s so nice to know my cast aways found a good home. :)”

Hilary

“Here is some random stuff I cleaned off my office shelf.”

Melissa

These pillows are a blah blah microfiber and have over the course of the past several years been worn down and flattened. And since I got new pillows for our couch from Be Still and Honey Pie Designs, I don’t need these guys sitting around here ruining the pretty.

What a great weekend. Lots of relaxing, eating (at the new Nella’s in Lincoln Park on Clark – so good!), walking, and shopping. I hope you had a good few days of rest as well. I’ve also been playing around with my new hair cut which was pretty dramatic (you can see a pic below as my ‘exfoliation’).

End of the Week Exfoliation

“Goodbye to winter and to ill-fitting sweater tops!”

Diane

“I cleaned out my classroom last week (or started to) and this is what I already got rid of!  It feels so great!”

Morgan

“Something from my childhood that I have no use for now, but I wonder if other children might?”

Jessica

“These are miscellaneous items that I’ve been given and have been shuffling around ever since. Nothing wrong with any of it, just not my style. Already exfoliated to Goodwill!”

Stephanie

“Headbands that I never use. A purse I bought off of a street vendor in Italy in 2006. A picture frame we got as an engagement gift but just doesn’t really fit our style.”

Katherine

This weeks “cleansed” item has some sentimental attachment and is one that I have been holding on to for quite some time. However, it no longer fits and I can’t even tell you the last time I wore it. So…away it goes. I am excited to find a new a better home for it.”

Hilary

“My daughter is only a year old yet has about 25 stuffed animals. I went through them and am going to donate half to a local pregnancy center.”

Melissa

“I’ve decided to sell my collection of Frankie magazines (an Australian art/music/fashion mag) and my barely used yoga mat on Ebay.  Someone’s already bought the mags for $50!”

Sarah

“After the earthquake in Haiti, I found out that our local Salvation Army was collecting clothes & household items as part of the relief effort. My boyfriend and I decided to clean out our closets and donate whatever clothes we could to the cause. We managed to scrounge up everything you see in the photo. By the time we loaded everything into the car we had six hefty bags full. Its amazing what you can let go of when you think about what purpose it could serve for someone else.”

Simone

“My boyfriend is a Sox fan and I am tired of hiding this bag…I am sure my friend Liz (hardcore Cubs fan) will give it a better life.”

Eva

“I try to go through my closet every six months and purge.  It was that time of year again…  I was amazed at how much I was willing to part with.”

Abbie

Out of the blue last week I scheduled a hair cut and twenty minutes later I donated about 8-10″ of hair to Locks for Love. Though the chop was completely spur of the moment, I’m adjusting to the new look. Overall, I’d like to grow it out to my shoulders, but it’s nice to know that this graduated bob helped a good cause.

Whoa, Nellie. We have a lot of exfoliations this week. I’m not sure if it’s spring (cleaning) fever, or the new bonus Giveaway Giveaway prize, Speed Decorating by Jill Vegas. It feels great to know that we are all exfoliating these things which are no longer needed in our lives.

End of the Week Exfoliation

“And I cleaned out my jewelry. It’s all from target but a friend wants them and is taking me to coffee to get them!”

Sarah

“These items have been clogging up my kitchen drawers for months…but not anymore! Say goodbye to a pair of garden gloves that I got for free but are much too large, two Glade plug ins that just don’t work, a bag of magnets and an old calorie counter book; all are headed for donation.”

Shanti

“These tops have seen better days!”

Diane

“I cleaned out my classroom last week (or started to) and this is what I already got rid of!  It feels so great!”

Morgan

“I actually don’t have a clue what this is for, only that it was very cute when I was purchasing it. It’s been unused for at least five years.”

Jessica

“I had been saving boxes to use to mail my Ebay sales, but I decided to take a break from listing items back in January.  I finally decided to break all of the boxes down and take them to recycling.  I can easily find more when I decide to start listing again.  When my husband saw me loading my car with the boxes, he mentioned he was going to call the show Hoarders and tell them not to come now.  (The two big boxes were filled with packing peanuts alone… yikes!)”

Abbie

“This is a picture of a diaper bag I got at my baby shower over a year ago. I used the bag for a couple months but the strap drove me crazy. My cousin has a 6 week old and made a comment recently about how much she loved the bag. I decided to exfoliate the bag to her since it was just taking up room in my daughters closet.”

Melissa

“All of these clothes fall into one of two categories. Either something I wore a TON, but don’t find myself wearing post-grad, or something I talked myself into buying in a dressing room somewhere and then never actually wore. All in good condition and already exfoliated to Goodwill!”

Stephanie

“I finally tackled my makeup drawer.  I found a few things buried in there that I’ll start using again, but also a whole lot of stuff that is headed for the garbage.”

Sarah

Katherine

“My friend just got engaged last weekend. She gave me this wedding planning book when I got engaged, so I’m gifting it and the “wedding” piggy bank to her as she plans her wedding. The hand towels will be given to charity since they don’t match our decor.”

Cathy

These khakis are from high school. I have to admit that they are from a very different weight in my life and I’ve been keeping them tucked away for when I’m back to that size. But the reality is, that I haven’t fit into them since sometime in college. It’s time that I let these puppies go. If I get back to that size in the future, I’ll reward myself with a new pair of pants.

Happy Easter! I woke up this morning to a pink and purple basket of chocolate goodies a la Erwin which has pretty much made my day. Not to mention the weather here in Chicago is ideal for being outside. Which means I’m a pretty happy camper today. I hope your weekend was equally as beautiful and chocolaty.

End of the Week Exfoliation

“I took two full trash bags of clothing to Goodwill. Since I took them before I got a picture, here is a pic of an empty dresser drawer :D”

Sarah

“My husband I have had the same towels since we met…five years ago. Since then, they’ve been through many a wash & dry, camping trip, several different apartments, etc. and are now getting pretty tattered and threadbare in places. But instead of throwing them away (I don’t think they’re donate quality), I’m going to exfoliate them from our bathroom and use them for post-dog-park clean up :)”

Shanti

I need to get it in my head that J.Crew pants just don’t fit me right.  I’m finally getting rid of 3 pairs that never really worked.”

Diane

I weeded out some old makeup and samples that I either 1.) haven’t used in years or 2.) never used (and have had for years) but thought I might use them one day. Can you say gross? Think of all the bacteria and crud growing in those! I also exfoliated two cosmetics bags that came as free bonus gifts. I haven’t donated the bags yet, so if anyone wants the green one to use as a clutch, I’ll set up a payment for shipping through Paypal. There aren’t any logos on the outside.”

Cathy

“I plan on a big spring clean-out this week.  But I cleaned out my classroom last week (or started to) and this is what I already got rid of!  It feels so great!”

Morgan

This has always been tight on me so it’s been worn maybe once.”

Jessica

“I finally decided to go through my piles and piles of saved magazines.  It’s amazing how adamant I was that I needed to keep them, but I never opened them.  I pulled out the pages I wanted to save and ended up purging 50 mags.  Hauling them to recycling wasn’t as easy.”

Abbie

Confession: I totally ripped off Abbie’s magazine exfoliation and used it myself as well. What a great idea. I have sat and looked at these magazines in my bookshelf since 2009, and I always say “one day I’ll read them again and tear out the pages I want to keep.” But really? I haven’t found time in the past five months to do that? Time to get these puppies into the recycling bin.

So it seems these exfoliation posts are more and more often popping up on Sundays rather than Fridays or Saturdays. So much for the “end of the week” portion. At least we all get the idea.

I hope you are enjoying some time off with friends and family. I know I’ll be having fun and thinking of anything but work.

End of the Week Exfoliation

“We also gave this box of random stuff to the Brown Elephant. It contained kitchen stuff from old roommates, unnecessary wedding shower presents (including an awful smelling candle), an old camera, and other chotchkies.”

Cathy

I have a lot of extra gym equipment so I’m going to do away with them not sure to whom or how, but they need a new home.”

Sarah T.

“These are items that I have never or rarely worn.  My friend and I are going to be doing a bit of an exfoliation swap, but I am determined to get rid of more than I take in!”

Heather

“I decided to do some spring cleaning over the weekend in honor of the official arrival of spring and realized what an ridiculous amount of shoes I own that I don’t even wear!  These shoes are now bagged and sitting at m front door to be donated so someone else can enjoy them.”

Shenneth

“I love the pop of color that this spring coat adds to an outfit…but I don’t love the unflattering fit. It’s still in great condition, so I’m putting it in my “Clothes Swap” box for the next time my girls and I get together for some wine and clothing exchange action.”

Shanti

“Ten more out the door.  Most of them are size 7 1/2.  All but 5, 7, and 10 could use a new home. The aforementioned trio have had their day.”

S.E. Minegar

I found this old eye glass case/glasses case in my linen closet. At which point I realized it was for my old glasses and does not fit my new glasses or sunglasses. Which means this puppy doesn’t have a place in my life. Buh-bye.

Happy weekend! I just got finished doing a makeunder of my kitchen desk which has become messy and quite frankly a dumping ground for miscellanieous items that I probably really don’t need. Now it looks great and I actually enjoy opening the cupboards.

This weekend I spent a lot of time working on the new Jess LC website (which is intended to launch May, 30th!) and had a good old high-school-style sleepover with my friend Kristin in the suburbs. Last night Erwin and I also had a fantastic dinner with my friend Vicki and her friend Monique at The Bristol. So amazing.

End of the Week Exfoliation

“My dvd collection is not all that extensive, but there are a few that are good for nothing more than collecting dust.  they are going into the summer yard sale pile!”

Heather

“I cleaned out the makeup bag in my purse and am purging items I never use. More space in my bag- what a great feeling!!”

Melissa

“I Exfoliated my books. Updated my status on facebook offering any of these books to others I knew and said any money donated I would send to World Vision.”

Sarah

“These are a few more things John and I found in our closets. A jacket I never wear anymore, a few long sleeved shirts, a shirt of John’s, and a wallet I received at a white elephant gift exchange. These were promptly taken to our local Brown Elephant.”

Cathy

These items are all from a makeunder I did on my kitchen desk area this weekend. The full reveal will post tomorrow. It feels so nice to have those proverbial “junk drawers” organized!

Happy weekend! I am off to celebrate my Irish heritage (and freckles) with a few pints of green beer. I hope you have a great weekend planned yourself!

Green or otherwise.

End of the Week Exfoliation

“Every time I get a new pair of running shoes, I get rid of the oldest pair in my closet. Since these were far beyond donation condition, I dropped them off at Niketown. Nike has a recycling program where they turn old athletic shoes into sports surfaces (tracks, basketball courts, and playgrounds). Check out nikereuseashoe.com for more information and drop off locations. Shoes can also be mailed directly to Nike if there isn’t a location near you.”

Cathy

“I Exfoliated my books. Updated my status on facebook offering any of these books to others I knew and said any money donated I would send to World Vision.”

Sarah

“This pink shirt completely washes me out. I wore the other shirt today and it just looked blah, so both of these shirts will be donated. Our new phones have an answering machine so this old one will be donated as well.”

Melissa

I bought this plant stand from Craig’s list about 2 years ago.  It now doesn’t match my decor and no matter where I move it to…it just doesn’t fit like it use to.  I am passing it on to my boyfriend’s mom.  Talk about making the best of something…1) Exfoliating AND 2) Brownie Points!”

Eva

These pieces of jewelry and my old silver watch have now become the property of a good friend in Chicago. She came over yesterday after explaining that with her husband in law school, she’s been unable to go shopping for nice clothes since high school. Let’s just say that I got a little carried away with exfoliating and ended up doing a complete makeunder of my winter and spring wardrobe (more on that coming next week). She looks stunning in all the nice clothes that don’t fit my shorter frame properly. Now I have the room to build an even better clothing collection for myself and she has a great new wardrobe foundation. It was truly a win-win.

February Giveaway Giveaway Winner

Congrats to Jillian! She won the February Giveaway Giveaway (chosen by a random number generator #12 of 13). She is now the new owner of a $40 Jess LC gift certificate. To win the March Giveaway Giveaway, please read the details and best of luck!

End of the Week Exfoliation

“A blogger-buddy mentioned that she is loving headbands now that she has short hair.  I sent her an email telling her I had loads of them that I never wore, and off they went!”

Abbie

“This was part of my evening winter “uniform”. I would wear this fleece pullover everyday after work because it was so cozy. It has seen way better days but I’ve been waiting for the perfect replacement. I found a new “uniform” fleece so this one has a one way ticket to the garbage.”

Melissa

“Here is our unsuccessful attempt at selling clothes at a consignment store. There’s a pair of dress pants that do nothing for my butt, a few sweaters I don’t wear anymore, a dress shirt, and an old sweater of John’s. I also added a pair of shoes to the pile that weren’t very comfortable.”

Cathy

This baby pink sweater is great. But I recently got another one in a similar blush shade that I prefer more. Now Susie owns this little guy.
