LizSchneider

Tomorrow I have a podcast taping with my friend and adorable fashion blogger, Liz Schneider, of Sequins and Stripes.

This will be a fun conversation about all things going on in her life – her blog, upcoming wedding, and favorite things in fashion for 2014.

Please let me know if you have any personal or fashion related questions you’d like to ask her!

I’d really like to know what Liz studied in school and what job(s) she had before starting her own business. I’m always a bit baffled as to how so many women are financially able to quit their jobs, blog and start their own business?

Thanks for your question, Julie! I’m excited to hear Liz’s answer to this question.

For me, I started Jess LC after college full-time by hitting the streets everyday with the jewelry and selling to as many stores as I could get into to pay the bills each month (I also made $70 a week working at a boutique that sold my jewelry while I made jewelry there). Years later, when I was making the same amount biz consulting as Jess LC, I close the company. Now that I’m doing the hotel project and life sessions, I’m paying my bills that way.

Every person has their own personal situations to contend with, but this is at least one person’s story. : )

I never get enough of blogging tips and tricks. I just “closed” my blog for the holiday season to re-group and come back strong in 2014. I have so many goals, ideas, ect… but I feel like I haven’t been able to implement much. I would love to know if she has a blog business plan. I want to generate one in the next few weeks to help myself be more organized. & of course, I bet you have some valuable insight on this too!

How fun! Love her style. Maybe if she has any nail polish or beauty picks for 2014? Always on the lookout for great recommendations!

  • Caitlin Dreger

Wonderful! I adore her style. How about some suggestions of how to balance what’s a “Must Have” for the season vs. working with what you already have in your closet? Also warm and waterproof boots! I have such a hard time finding cute and practical ones!

  • Amanda Risius

So excited for the podcast! I’m a sucker for these types of “informational” videos/posts especially when involving such two incredible people!
My question has to do with location. I know you are both located in Chicago and have worked with many brands. How important has location been in getting the opportunity to work with those brands and do you think your business would benefit even more if you were located in LA or NYC? I live in Iowa so there are not tons of brand opportunities that are geographically close and events are hard to come by. With my blog I try to capture the unique and midwest point of view to my blog unique, but I can’t help but wonder if I would have more opportunities living in a metropolitan area.

One more question! What is Liz’s daily blogging/business schedule like? What’s her routine? How much of her time is spent actually writing posts and doing blog work compared to personal shopping/styling? How about time spent “marketing”?

Hi Caitlin, we just taped the show but didn’t have time for this question specifically (although she does address trends vs. working with what she has in the main part of the interview). : ) As for boots, Liz just shared a pair that I’m planning to get myself this winter, too. http://www.sequinsandstripes.com/2013/11/27/1829/
