TLS #59: beating the new year’s blues
January 13th, 2015     |    IntentionLife

TheLivelyShowBeatingNewYearsBlues

Today on The Lively Show I’m talking with Lively Show associate producer, Ashley, about beating the “New Year’s Blues.”

Ashley lives here in Austin and has quickly become a good friend since I moved here last summer. Since then, she’s also become the “Intention Tattoo Dream Fulfiller” and is helping me with The Lively Show.

This show style is fun, lighthearted, and may become a more regular occurrence on Tuesdays, if you enjoy the format.

(Please let us know if you’d like to hear more episodes like these!)

In this episode, we are talking about what Ashley calls the “New Year’s Blues” and what you can do to beat them.

It’s great to hear that you enjoy the shows, too!!

I like the new format with Ashley! I had to laugh because I had just got back from Target, before listening to your podcast, and had spent about $100 (I was looking over my receipt..what did I spend $100 on?!) Keep up the great work!!

  • I love this format 🙂

Yes I am also a good Target snob (actually it was one of the reasons why I am moved to my current apt).

  • I’m glad you like it, Laura! And I love that you moved closer to a Target you like. ; )

  • I’m glad you liked the convo style, Ellie! : )

And I hear you about those receipts! What happens when we get there?!

  • Ellie-The Head Chick

it’s all those great “deals!” They add up! LOL

FYI, your 2015 episodes aren’t showing up in Stitcher. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the heads up!

  • Erica

Sorry ladies, didn’t like this version. Didn’t get much out of it.

  • Thanks for the feedback, Erica! This type of show is definitely a different flavor, more the Uplift vs. inspire and intention.

We’ll keep your thoughts in mind when we decide how much of this type of show to add going forward. : )

  • Hi Jess and Ashley
I loved the energy between the two of you. You both come across as completely authentic.
I loved that Ashley is approaching her life using a completely different set of tools. I think this gives you the opportunity to have a discussion that can answers questions that maybe many of the listeners might have since her perspective is so different from yours. I think it could be really interesting if Ashley is willing to be in a vulnerable place with you and the rest of of crazy listeners.
    I enjoyed the show.

I liked this style of show. It was casual and light-hearted. As a fellow “Austinite” I can totally appreciate (and agree with) the idea of Good Targets…hahaha!! Since you are from the land of the Good Targets which ones in Austin would you say are up to par???

Thanks, Jess and Ashley! I loved this show! It was really interesting to hear your differing viewpoints and I think Ashley has the ability to ask questions some of the listeners may be thinking if they aren’t quite as intention-led as Jess. And since Ashley has already been my Tattoo Dream Fulfiller, it was nice to “meet” her. I hope you’ll do more of these type of shows!

  • Christy

I absolutely love the different flavor if this episode! I hope you will continue to do these mini-eps with Ashley. The energy between the 2 of you is so funny and light-hearted. It reminds me of several of my friends- I am much more intentional and I have many friends who aren’t as much, like ashley. It was so fun to hear you two interact and the differing mindsets mostly because I have been in both places and I relate to both of you!

  • I enjoyed listening to this format! It was nice to “meet” Ashley and hear the conversation between the two of you since she has a different point of view on Value-based intentions. I hope you do more of this format of show on your mini editions 🙂

  • That’s so great to hear, Terrie! I have a feeling based on the feedback we’ll be chatting more. : )

  • That’s great to hear, Christy! : )

  • That’s so great to hear, JBC!!

  • That is a great question you’ll have to ask Ashley, she’s the one who knows. I’m the one who just goes to the closer ones nearby and then regret it later. ; )

  • Thank you so much for your thoughts, Diane!!

I’m so glad you liked the format and Ashley’s perspective. : )

  • joanna

I didn’t get much out of it. I like the lighter note but would rather have a message within it or something to ponder. Maybe a challenge of some sort.

  • Patty Palmer

Just discovered your podcast and site through your interview on After the Jump. Immediately subscribed to your podcast and I’m hooked! What a gift you have. Just love your Intention theme. Understanding the power of intention has made a huge difference in the quality of my work and play. Thanks!

  • Rachel

This format didn’t work for me. I was really intrigued by the topic. I’ve often felt a restlessness in January, and the urge to keep shopping, but with no real reason or goal now that the gift-giving season is over. I wanted the topic to be explored deeper and to be more focused. It wasn’t the conversation style that bothered me, just all the lulls, talking about the sound quality, extra laughter, etc. Maybe some of that will get worked out in time, or maybe you could try having previously discussed the topic a little more. I usually listen to every mini-series, but wasn’t able to make it through to the end of this one. It got too annoying. I hope this perspective is helpful and not hurtful in any way. Love your work!

  • Thanks for the great feedback, Joanna. : )

  • Rachel

Okay, I couldn’t put that much thought into my comment without giving the rest of the episode a shot. It definitely got better. My suggestion is to cut to the chase a little quicker in future episodes if you don’t want to lose some listeners. Thanks!

  • That’s so amazing to hear, Patty! Thank you for sharing!! I’m so glad you are enjoying the show.

  • Thank you for the kind and constructive feedback, Rachel!

I can definitely say we’ve had people that have loved the lighthearted nature of the show with giggling and fun, and others have definitely voiced similar opinions to what you’ve shared.

I definitely don’t plan for this to be *all* Tuesday shows, but we may pop them in every now and then for those who do like the lighthearted, less “focused” shows. And I’ll also be bringing plenty of my single voice shows to Tuesday to talk more about Values and intentions.

I think I also might mention in the start of these kinds of shows that they are lighter, so those who might want to skip them will know ahead of time. Perhaps that would be a win-win for both groups of listeners. : )

  • Thanks for giving the rest of the episode a shot, Rachel. I’m glad you enjoyed it more. I hope you get a chance to see my thoughts on your other comment below. : )

  • Rachel

    🙂

  • Anabel

    Hi Jess,

I have to admit that this episode did not speak to me at all. I feel it was missing in intention actually. I look forward to each episode because I usually get so much out of them but this one missed the mark for me. I’m glad you’re trying new things though and I look forward to see what you share with us this year. Thanks for asking for our input!

  • Thank you for your feedback, Anabel! We tried something new that wasn’t quite as intentional as it was uplifting and fun. Some people loved it, others were totally on the same page as you felt.

As I mentioned below to Rachel, I definitely don’t plan for this to be *all* Tuesday shows, but we may pop them in every now and then for those who do like the lighthearted, less “focused” shows. And I’ll also be bringing plenty of my single voice shows to Tuesday to talk more about Values and intentions.

  • Eaanca

I’m all for fun and lighthearted, but what are you giving us here? I love silly conversations with a sense of humor, but it should still be smart/witty/original. This just sounds like two friends chatting about not much. p.s. To say “maybe I have the blues because I don’t do resolutions” begs the question, “then why not try resolutions?!!?” Making a resolution means resolving to do something, so it’s not too different from setting a goal. I do agree that New Year’s resolutions have become really unfashionable.

  • Thank you so much for your feedback, Eaanca! I appreciate you and hope you have a great weekend.

  • Abilu

I love this format! I really enjoyed Ashley’s perspective and fun spirit! She reminds me of my hah-larious Chicago friend. And I love the natural give and take that happens when things are unscripted. It reminds me of this other podcast I used to listen to (David Foster’s daughter and her friend). Please keep this format around; it makes you more relatable!

  • I’m glad you enjoyed it, Abilu! I’ll definitely keep this in mind. : )

  • I loved listening to you and Ashley interact because of how different you are, but how you both show so much respect to each other. I enjoyed this style of episode. 🙂

  • That’s so great to hear, Shaina! : ) Thank you for letting me know.
