the soda stream

TheSodaStream

A few weeks ago our friend, Sophie, came to dinner. While we fed her copious amounts of Blue Apron, we talked about our La Croix addiction.

We drink so much sparkling water that we have been buying three crates every time we go to Cost Co. After hearing this, Sophie told us about a little thing called the Soda Stream.

It makes soda water in 11 seconds flat.

Sound too good to be true? I made this video to show how insanely fast it is.

And fortunately, it doesn’t take up a lot of counter space, either.

SodaStreamOnCounterBy doing just a little bit of math, we realized that we will be saving money, and dozens of aluminum cans, with this purchase by November.

So for anyone else out there who has trouble keeping La Croix stocked in their fridge, this might be a good alternative to consider!

I have had one for almost 3 years now and it is such a money (and planet?) saver! It is a modest but worthy investment, and anyone who drinks fizzy anything should have one!

We love ours! We make our own sodas…currently, I’m loving mint and lemon. I steep mint from my backyard with lemon peel, and then after a few hours, I bring it in, strain it, and fizz it up! My mom has one, and she mixes the water with cranberry juice.

I would never think to make a tea out of it like that, that sounds really good.

    That. Sounds. Awesome.

Agreed! How often do you have to replace the cartridges?

Nerdy MIT student that I am, I enlisted a mechanical engineer to help me build a setup for a CO2 tank underneath my sink. It’s about $200 for the full setup, and $100 of that is the deposit on the CO2 tank itself…most of the other parts are pretty conventional.

We also just recently got on the soda steam train. It is so great, I love it- so nice to not have to buy store bought bottles any more!

I totally agree! I also love how little space that it takes up on our small counters. : )

    That. Is. Amazing.

    Bravo!

i never really thought twice about these, but after reading your post maybe i will… la croix lover over here, too, but i’ve started only buying it when it’s about $4 or less for a 12-15 pk which is still expensive when you think that it’s just water!

dumb question here… but how do you add flavoring? and i assume that you just started with regular water in the sodastream bottle? i’m going to do some research!

I remember we had a Soda Stream as kids – it was orange and very retro looking. Love that it’s making a comeback!

yay!! so glad you guys love it! :)

I make my own iced tea with green tea, mint tea, and simple syrup, so mint soda was the logical next step ;)
