A few weeks ago I was talking with a very good friend about her intention for her career. In a (somewhat) sudden bolt of clarity, she realized her next mission in life is to teach private music lessons. Having been a very talented flute performance major in college, she is perfectly suited to the task. After a few years of teaching elementary music she now finds herself in a new town seeking the next phase of her life and career.
While she was thinking about her next career intention she decided to substitute teach in her new community. At first the subbing was fulfilling in and of itself. But over time as her purpose began to emerge in her consciousness, the subbing became something to dread.
In our private lesson conversation, we realized that her substitute teaching income could be the perfect seed money for her new company. And at one point I blurted out that her substitute teaching money was the shit that would eventually fertilize her new business.
And it clicked. No longer was this temporary position something she needed to rail against, it was actually a conduit for her dream to come true. Though the actual task of subbing is still the same, the purpose and intention behind the act has been lifted to a higher, more intentional realm. She no longer needs to feel stuck and without options. This is a choice she is making that allows her to go into her private lesson business funded.
And that makes all the difference.
