TLS #169: How approval, love & external sources affect intuition

Today on The Lively Show, we’re diving into an area that has been popping up for me personally over the summer (and in particular this past week) which many can relate to, as well.

We’re going deep into our motivations to a) have the courage to ask (and follow) our intuition for guidance, and b) how to follow our intuition and be peaceful with its guidance/unanswered questions (aka: what I was not doing this week).

The answer to both of these motivations may surprise you like it surprised me… so I’m excited to share it with you!

This episode is perfect for anyone who is stressed out trying to follow their intuition or for those who sense some internal resistance to asking the intuition for guidance in the first place.

  • Why I’ve been thinking about internal and external approval, love and guidance lately.

  • Why it seems people are afraid to seek the internal guidance?

  • How I’ve been trying to follow my intuition when it tells me that the love that I’m seeking is the love within myself.

  • How the lack of community, home and partner feels to me when I’m not in line with my intuition’s guidance.

  • How using affirmations can help one be deliberate and conscious about getting love and approval within ourselves.

  • How affirmations help clear you mind of the negative things by filling it with more positive thoughts.

  • Why would we not choose to use the power of focus to focus on the good when we focus on the bad as well.

  • How affirmations can help us feel fulfilled.

I can appreciate the life advice given here as an adult woman.
As an adult woman with elementary school kids, I am conflicted. I do not tell my kids who to be. I’m not a stage mom. If they want to play sports because it brings them joy, I enroll them. If they want to jump in the mud, I’m all for it.
But it is really hard to Parent without guiding people along (enforcing my beliefs of what a good life looks like) Because that is parenting.
Our brain’s frontal cortex (the reasoning and judgement center) is not fully developed until people are in their mid 20s.
If I see my kids making what I consider “mistakes”, I think it is worth a hard discussion. I do not think it is my job to allow them to float around without responsibility or consequences. I do not think this is what you were saying to do at all, but the lines are definitely blurry and hard to define when it comes to parenting vs an adult making decisions.

I had bad anxiety for 8 solid years where I didn’t fly on airplanes etc.. Affirmations helped me get back to flying and traveling again. I wrote “Flying is so easy” and other affirmations for a month in my journal and it helped with my mind set.

Hi Jess! I LOVED this episode and took so much from it.

I was fortunate enough to be rummaging through a box of old books at my Mums house when I found You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay. I was only 20 years old at the time, I am 27 now and have spent the last seven years writing affirmations or saying them in the mirror to myself almost every single day!

Someone once told me “fake it ’til you make it” & it was the best piece of advice I heard because some days you really don’t want to believe in the affirmations, some days you think “why the hell do I bother,” but persisting through and doing them anyway is magic! You can really trick yourself in to believing what you’re saying/writing.

Affirmations have assisted in recognising my worth, my values and my power! A moment will happen and it will click to me that I had affirmed that experience a week ago, a month ago or even a year ago – it feels like a miracle when you can understand that what you think, will become your reality. Love the show Jess, haven’t missed an episode yet xx Bec

  4. Jess, I’m so thankful I stumbled upon your podcasts. I’ve been listening to them every morning during my commute to school and I can genuinely say I feel a positive energy around me every day as result! You’re so well spoken and I can’t wait to catch up with your show. You’ve actually inspired me to start blogging again so thanks for doing what you do!

Thank you so much for this episode! I am a new fan of your podcast and I must say that I stumbled upon this episode when it aligned almost perfectly with what is currently going on in my life. My ex has been keeping me wrapped around his finger for the past year and continually forces me to do things that I believe my intuition warns me not to but my ego talks me into. I gave him the power to take away most of the love I had for myself and ultimately I have been feeling quite empty, which is mostly why I haven’t been able to move on and break free. After listening to this episode I am going to try out the affirmation method to try and get back to loving myself first. I think I am going to incorporate this idea with my writing. Sometimes both saying out loud that I love and approve myself and writing it down will make it stick better in my brain. Thank you again for a great episode!

I love Luise Hay! Adding my name to the “I love an approve of …” makes a huge difference energetically. Thanks for the tip!!
