back from cabo

¡Hola! Mr. Lively and I are back from our long weekend in Cabo, Mexico. We had a great time. I didn’t realize how much we needed the trip … until I hit the hot tub. With just four hours of sleep and fourteen hours of travel, I had bickered with Mr. Lively most of the way there. But once I hit that hot tub all words escaped my brain and I relaxed with more peace than even my deepest meditation.

{I have a feeling Mr. Lively is going to keep that hot tub insight in mind the next time I’m feeling stressed out, cranky, or worried. My tub may be transformed into a bubble bath pronto.}

Once we had a chance to unwind hit the hot tub, we let the stress of our jobs and life in Chicago melt away. We enjoyed a lot of relaxing time at the pool, walking along the water, eating seafood, eating insane guacamole, and drinking cervezas. As you’ll see below in a quick recap in photos, we even had a chance to catch the Super Bowl, Mexican style.

First, a bit of Instagram action.

And now for a more detailed play by play.

This view…

… from this chair on our private balcony was pretty insane.

The weather over the weekend bounced between mildly hot and slightly cool.

Me, pre-sun. (Don’t let the shade fool you, I was pretty pale in this photo.)

We spent our mornings lying along the sundecks reading Bossypants aloud.

Mr. Lively, looking like a boss.

I am now completely smitten with these sunnies from Betsy Johnson scored at TJ Maxx (a few weeks ago) for just $15.

I also spent my mornings playing with my new camera. This shot was taken with my 50mm (thanks, Danielle).

By Sunday we were ready to head out of our resort and into town. We hit up a sports bar to catch the first half of the Super Bowl. Though we had our fair share of delicious Mexican food, by this point we were ready to mix Mexican with traditional football fare.

These Pacifico Lights are extremely familiar thanks to Corona Light. They were the ideal Super Bowl beverage.

At halftime, we went to the beach to continue watching the game. Mr. Lively cheered on the Pats as we sat in a surreal outdoor TV room.

All in all, we had a fantastic time in Mexico. By taking a few days off I realized how worn out I had become in Chicago. Running my business and supporting myself as a self-employed person can be extremely taxing. It just took me a few days to realize how stressed out I can become. And now, I am working to make that stress lighter. Though I know I cannot change all the instability in my job, I can work on how I react to that uncertainty. I feel the same amount of fear as any business owner, and though I’ve been able to push through it, I haven’t been able to relax as much as I’d like.

So now, it’s time to see how I can bring un poco México to Chicago.

Eliza, we stayed at Sirena Del Mar. It was beautiful, not crazy expensive, not crowded, and definitely our favorite place we saw while we were there!

Jenn, thanks! It definitely was. The bikini is from Lands End Canvas on sale!

Looks like you had a fabulous time in Cabo. I need a get away, reading your posts has really helped me to see, how stressed out I really am.

  10. Your trip looks totally wonderful! Also, looks like you’ve come a long way in learning to use your camera. I got the same one right before Christmas but I’ve had so little time to play around with it.

Zoe, thanks! I don’t really have one. Just working out regularly and doing ab stuff. Also, I am a bit more pear shaped, so weight ends to be lower than on my belly.

    Betsy, yep!

Alyssa, thanks! Good lighting, using the right lens, and a few photoshop actions like lightening images and such help!
