car bag

First off, I would like to thank everyone for their support on my driving post! I had no idea I wasn’t the only one who doesn’t like driving or driving in a big city.

In an effort to enjoy driving and being in the car a bit more, I created a little goodie bag of sorts with car essentials. I picked a cute tote which holds the items in the back of the car and also doubles as a grocery bag. Inside there are snacks (the almonds are for Mr. Lively, the K bars are for me), an umbrella, wet wipes, and Kleenex. I also plan to add aspirin and a flash light to the mix.

Aside from the car bag we also have some bottled water and a blanket. The blanket is for comfort during long trips or for warmth if something ever happened in the winter.

Does anyone else have a car bag?

FOr Christmas one year my parents actually got me a car kit that had jumper cables, a sign for the windshield in case the car broke down, etc. It’s been handy having it.

I have a plastic milk crate with the standard car emergency tools, a blanket, an old sheet ( to wrap estate sale furniture finds or cover the trunk in when buying plants)sweatshirts, an extra pair of dress shoes. Will have add snacks and a mini first aid kit…you never know.

This is a great idea! I would probably add a deck of cards or a card game like Table Topics to the bag. I was once stuck waiting for a tow truck on the side of the highway with a coworker for 7 hours. Now I always keep a book or game in my car. A highlight is that the game, blanket and take out could make for a sweet impromptu picnic on a nice day.

I keep a big plastic baggie in the glove compartment with: pens, corkscrew, nail clippers, matches, small pad of paper…..I always have kleenex, a pack of handi-wipes and umbrella at the front of the car, easily accessible…..and in the trunk – booster cables and windshield wiper fluid. Don’t laugh about the corkscrew – there are lots of times we have pulled into a motel or even a good hotel, and had no way to open the wine! In the days when I drove children everywhere and often waited for them……I always kept a good book in the car….

I don’t have a bag but keep some extras in the glove compartment – soft gloves for whenever my steering wheel is too cold but it’s not cold enough to wear gloves all the time; a couple of tampons for emergencies; contact lens rewetting solution; a pair of sunglasses for my husband whenever he drives my car; floss; a lint roller; and we keep a picnic blanket in the trunk. It’s like my car is a back-up purse, I guess! Happy driving!
