I can’t believe it’s been one year since I started MakeunderMyLife. Pretty incredible. I started this blog without any expectation, hoping to one day compile the contents into a book. And today, 365 days later, I’m being interviewed by a local television show about the blog and my message(!!).

I’m pinching myself.

To show my thanks for reading the blog and making my life so much more purposeful, I am doing something brand new on MML: I’m doing a Jess LC giveaway. (I know what you’re thinking- Finally!)

And it’s not just any ol’ giveaway. I’m giving away TWO $100 GIFT CERTIFICATES. Yep. That’s how excited I am about this birthday.

How to Win the Gift Certificates

To win a gift certificate, please submit (in a comment on this post) a intentional message that you would like to wear on a piece of jewelry. If you responded to this question on yesterday’s post, you are welcome to submit it again to enter the giveaway on this post as well. My hope is to continue to get new message ideas to vote on later this month. If you’d like to learn more about the new Jess LC collection these intentional messages will be used for, read on.

I’m also excited to announce that the authors of the six messages which become part of the new line will receive their own necklace with their phrase compliments of Jess LC. ๐Ÿ™‚

And of course, feel free to spread the word about the giveaway and the intentional message contest!

(Giveaway winners will be picked and announced next Tuesday 1/26.)

  1. Suzy

Hi there! I come by way of Holly’s blog! I think if I could have a special message, gosh..I guess there would be a couple. The first would be “Love me”-simple right? My uncle (who has since passed away) never said “I love you” he’d always say love me, so it’s a family thing now that we all say it. The other is more mommy specific to me-I’ve sang my daughter a song called Lullaby in Blue (by Debbie Reynolds from Bundle of Joy) since she was born. I’d love to have a necklace with “honest to goodness, I do” it’s her favorite part! Happy Birthday!

  2. Well, I posted my suggestion yesterday but I really can’t give up this opportunity, can I?!

    My suggestion is: “Persistance”

I’d also like to add “Trust” which I think is an amazing word and concept. In italian it would be “Fiducia”… ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Jill

oh boy, I’m going to have to re-submit mine as well!

    “Be the change”

    and “Go for it.”

Happy Birthday to MML and a tv interview?!? Awesome!

  4. Happy Birthday, Makeunder My Life! And congratulations, Jess! You’ve created such an inspiring and thought-provoking blog that is a joy to read! I always find myself looking forward to your posts!

As I posted yesterday, I love “Say Yes”. I’ve also been thinking about it and I’d love to see “Jump” or “Leap”. Simple but meaningful and effective!

    Congrats again! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Jenny

Happy Birthday! I absolutely adore this blog. I would have to say “Fearless”, right now I’m working on not letting my fears make my decisions for me.

    I also like “Trust”

    Keep up the great work!!!

  6. Melissa

    Hi Jess,
    Happy Birthday to MML!

I’d have to say “patience” because I think we could all use a little more of that
and “faith” – not in a religious stance, but in believing in ourselves and others.

  7. My phrase would be “Love Life”. I think it encompasses loving one-self, loving the people around you, and loving the planet you live on, and preserving all that is good and meaningful about Life vs the material things.

    Thanks for the opportunity!

  8. Laina

I like “Believe” and “Persistence” as I think others have already said. I’m also a fan of “Perception” (how things affect you is directly related to how you look at it/how you perceive it).

Congrats Jess! This is an awesome milestone ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Annie

Hooray for birthdays! I can’t believe MML is only a year old; it feels like I’ve been reading your posts for ages!

I still think I’d love a piece of jewelry that hints toward my goal of a simpler way of life. “Live simple” still gets my vote. I’m loving some of the other ideas I’ve read, though. What a great idea!

  10. Erin

Hey Jess! Happy Birthday MML ๐Ÿ™‚ So happy I’ve found your blog. Here are my ideas:
    Just Be.

really like the live simple idea from annie – maybe simplify or just less would be great intentions.

  11. katrina stoffel

    “Love thy self”

    “do unto others”

  12. Carisa

Congratulations and Happy Birthday MML! What an awesome achievement!
Ok…here are my top 3 mantras!

    1. Believe In Yourself
    2. Open Your Eyes
    3. Never Stop Running

    I have these posted everywhere!
    Love this contest!

  13. happy birthday and great giveaway!!

“ciao”- the italian word for hello (and goodbye). i love the way it looks, sounds, and it reminds me of our recent trip to italy!

I love the “live simple” listed above. so i will add “dream big” to go along with that.

  14. Laura (Argentina)

Iร‚ยดm relatively new to your blog, and have been slowly reading everything….really inspiring to me (I am in the middle of sort of a crisis, so it is really helping).
    My ideas would be:

    “joy” and

    Love from Argentina,

  15. Jen

“third” i would wear that on a piece of jewelry to remind myself of Matthew 22:37-40, god first, others second…me in third place.

I also liked “be present” from yesterday’s suggestions

“simplify” would be another great piece.

THANKS FOR THE GIVEAWAY! Happy blog bday!

  16. KathrynwithaY

“Be Brave” or “Forge Your Own Path” or “Hope”

Happy 1st Birthday. ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s so awesome! Best wishes for many more milestones & success!

  17. I read Christine Kane’s blog and she invites readers to choose one word to set their intention for the year. Well, I’m having a hard time narrowing it down to just one word, so I’ve chosen a phrase for 2010: “radiate and shine.” I think I’d love to see radiate on a piece of jewelry, but shine might have more widespread appeal. xoxo.

    Happy first blog birthday!

  18. Beth

I also posted yesterday but this giveaway is too awesome not to post it again, my word of intention is “grace”. Thanks!

  19. Lauren

    Happy birthday!

    “Sincerity and/or truth”

  20. Clara

Hi, Jess. This is a wonderful idea, and I look forward to seeing the new line. Some thoughts on phrases that resonate for me:

Be Here Now (on of my favorite statements of Zen philosophy)

    Embrace change

    Live in gratitude

    Say ‘yes’

    Dream large

    Embrace the sublime

    Follow your Heart

    Trust your Heart

    Live Fearlessly

    Live Your Passion

    Do it Now

    Take a Risk

    Let it Go

    Be a Light

    Enjoy the Journey

    Think Big

    Never Stop Learning

    Choose Joy

    Laugh Often

    Aim High

    Live with Purpose

    Progress, not Perfection

    Grateful abundance

    Strive for Balance

    Eat. Sleep. Read.

Only Connect (this is a bit esoteric, I know, but it’s the theme, and one of my favorite lines from E.M. Forster’s ‘Howard’s End.’ Forster’s message is that interpersonal relationships give meaning to life, and it is that connection between us and others that gives our lives purpose.)

Hope some of these are useful.

  21. Hi Jess,
Reading all these amazing comments got me thinking of a quote by Mark Twain that has been my inspiration for quite a while (especially when I was 19 and working around the world for a cruise line).

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

I think “Explore”, “Dream” and “Discover” would be three amazing gifts for a young woman in search of her true self.

  22. Congrats, Jess!! Happy Birthday to MML! You’ve created such an awesome & inspirational site. Way to go!

I like, “Just Do It” or “Live Your Dreams” ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Betsy

“balance” because sometimes we just need a daily reminder to remember to stay balanced!

  24. Elena

    “Be Yourself”
    “Trust Yourself”
    “Meant to be”

    Congrats on 1-year!

  25. Happy Birthday!!
    Ground and Center
    Simply with Intention
    Just Be
    I Am
    With Gratitude

  26. Kate

    Live fully.

Or if you’re into a bit more abstract of an idea, at the end of my yoga sessions we say “Namastรƒยฉ” which more or less means the divine in me recognizes the divine in you.

  27. Tiffany

    Live in the moment.

That’s what I’m trying to do each and every day this year.

  28. Jeanne

I don’t know if someone else suggested this yet, but I’d love to see “Embrace crazy” on a piece of your jewelry! The thing that has keep me going over the last year has been embracing all the craziness in my life, so this would mean a lot to me!

  29. Some intentions I live by and would love to see memorialized in a Jess LC piece are

    “Live Consciously”
    “Step Lightly” or “Tread Lightly”
    and “Enjoy The Journey”

    : )

  30. I think it’d have to be Just Breathe. sometimes we all need a reminder to slow down, take a second for ourselves, and that would be a great reminder for me.

  31. Nessa

I like words in other languages – as do some others that have commented… but a word I keep posted around me is “stop”

    fermarsi: Italian
    arrรƒยชter: French

    It reminds me to stop

rushing, being critical, worrying – stop and enjoy the moment.

  32. Brooke

The list of statements is so huge already! I definitely would like a piece of jewelry with just the word “patience” on it. I need more of it!

What an unbelievable giveaway! Happy Bday to MML!

  33. Happy Happy Birthday Makeunder Your Life! Can’t wait to be here when even more candles get added to the cake.

I would love to wear something that reminded me to “Follow My Bliss” & “Trust”.

Can’t wait to see this new line!

  34. What an amazing giveaway! Happy Birthday!

I think “happy to be me” would be great on a necklace. ๐Ÿ™‚

  35. Katie

Happy Birthday! Congrats on all of your success:) I wrote yesterday but of course will enter the contest: life is beautiful

  36. Rebecca S.

Great give away! I think “enjoy the moment” would be great on a piece of jewelry and remind us to take a breather and enjoy the little things in life.

  37. Kelly P

Congrats on 1 year and wishing you the best for many more! I find your blog very inspiring and there are a couple of thoughts that come to me about an intentional message:

    Laugh (or smile) ever day

    Find inspiration

    Just Breathe

  38. Hey Jess!

i am so delighted to stumble across your blog! i live in the chicago, lakeview area also. congrats on your success and my ideas are….

    “hold on to these moments”

    Kayla C.

  39. ps. me again. i thought of one more…

“love, love here we are” pablo neruda

not sure you could use it with it being a quote but i love it.

  40. Elena

I thought of one more as well…

    “Be the Change”

  41. Hi- love your blog! And what a great giveaway! I like:

    – “Be Thankful”
    – “Live Simply”
    – “Breathe”
    – “Love One Another”

  42. Heather

Be Yourself – Dream – Evolve that is a phrase I used to say all the time … I also like the idea of Be – and then there could be several words for different pieces. Congrats on your success!

  43. April

My word would be Flourish, i.e, to achieve success; to thrive

  44. Flavia

“Be Fearless” – this is what I need to keep telling myself, so it would be great to have it on a necklace! I am trying to break out of my comfort zone and leap into new experiences, but fear keeps holding me back.
Happy Birthday to MML and congrats!

  45. Congrats on making one year! I absolutely love the blog and the message behind it.

I really like “Be Strong” or “Strength” because there are always moments in life when we have to remember to stand strong. This year I’ve decided to strengthen my values, body, and soul.

  46. Melissa

As a new mom I often find myself saying “you’re gonna miss this”. It reminds me to live in the moment (which could also be another saying.) When my baby girl is crying and just wants to be held I always think about how I really will miss the tough baby days when she’s all grown up!

    Happy 1 year!

  47. Diane

alright, here’s my 3 favorite words and therefore what i’d wear on a necklace:

    – hope.

    – lovely.

    – slainte. (the gaelic word for “health,” and as some people may know, what they say instead of “cheers”)

  48. Tess

Great giveaway! I love the french saying “raison d’รƒยชtre” It means reason for being. We all have different things that are central to our existence, so it can mean different things to different people.

  49. Amber G

I would love a necklace that says “Don’t Stop Believin'”

  50. Ashley

I always loved the saying “When your heart speaks take good notes”.. it might be too long to actually put on jewelery but I think it’s a great message! Happy blog bday!

  51. Ginny Graves

Ooh! Happy Birthday! Love love love love your jewelry and thanks again soooo much for donating to our fundraiser this fall! Hope I win so I can get some jewelry and wear it around and spread the word! Congrats and happy birthday!

  52. petya

    Happy Blog-Birthday!

I got one of your necklaces for my little sister and she just LOVES it! She wears it every day!

  53. Cortnee

I think “Make it count” inspires me to put my best into whatever I’m doing at the time. Thanks for the opportunity!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MML!

  54. Intentional messages…

    *dream big
    *je ne sais quoi
    *believe in yourself
    *love without reservation

  55. olivia

ooooooo. i think mine will be “just live”. ๐Ÿ™‚

  56. Lynda

I would love a piece that says “Days are long, Years are short” to remind me that in the middle of a diffiult and long day I should stop and appreciate (my kids, family, projects etc) because the years fly by before you know it.

  57. Amy

I like “breathe deep” (even though it’s not grammatically correct–I think it sounds nicer than “breathe deeply”). It’s a reminder to take a moment to reflect and react thoughtfully. So many crises seem more manageable with a moment of deliberate calm to view them.

  58. cba

Congrats and Happy Blog Birthday! It’s so exciting to watch someone’s dreams come true!

  59. Tess

I fell in love with my boyfriend when he told me that in a relationship, everyone needs someone who can be both an anchor and a sail in their life, to push them and keep them grounded at the same time … the words I would love on jewelry are “Anchor and Sail”

  60. Mandy

Happy Birthday! My bday was just yesterday (wouldn’t that be a great gift;) Love love love your stuff and your customer service has been amazing – thank you and continued good luck!

  61. Karin

    Oh…there are so many:
Carpe Diem – sieze the day
Another Day, Another Opportunity (to make a difference)
All it takes is a smile
    Keep on Beleiving

Happy Birthday and keep up with the beautiful jewelry.

  62. danielle

What a fantastic giveaway! My message would be: “I’d rather dance”

  63. katie

well first off happy birthday, and i love my necklace that i bought from you last year:) the message tjhat i’d have on a necklace is “less is more” which is an architectural phrase, but i think it applies to many areas of life.

  64. Julie

Happy Birthday! My favorite message/saying: “believe in the power of love.” (ps: love the earrings my husband gave me last year!)

  65. Jess

Love, love, love your jewelry! Wear my madison ave. bracelet every day.

I like “breathe”, “take it all in” “live in the momemnt” or “see the big picture” as ideas. I’ve entered 2010 with these phrases in mind, reminding me to always take my time to enjoy life and to not rush.

    Happy Blog Birthday!

  66. Hillary

I’m a big fan of your jewelry and your blog! Thanks for the great give-away opportunity. I’ve been really inspired by this simple classic phrase: give and you shall receive. It’s so true!

  67. kate

    Happy Blogversary!

    choisis la joie (choose joy)

  68. Happy blogger Birthday, my friend! Fingers crossed I’ve got the golden ticket for this marvelous giveaway of yours.

  69. Rhonda

    Just dance
    Be thankful
    Wish on a star….

  70. Claire

    Happy Birthday!
    A few ideas:
    “Stay True”
    “Be aware”

  71. Rachel

Happy Birthday and Congratulations to you!

I would love a necklace or bracelet that has a charm that says “grace” on one side and “style” on the other.

  72. bonnie

love love love your blog and jewelry!! i am cringing admitting to this but ever since i read the twilight books i can’t get “more than my own life” out of my head. i am a mom to triplet boys and i tear up when i think of that. they truly are more than my own life and there isn’t a thing i wouldn’t do for them. i’d love to find something that says that to wear everyday ๐Ÿ™‚ happy blog-birthday! xo

  73. Vanessa

Faithful- an important quality for a variety of reasons (relationships, friendships, virtuous living)

Joy- evokes a stronger emotion than “happy”

  74. Happy Birthday! And thank you for such a lovely give-away!

My intentional message idea is: Make the Journey a Compelling One!

  75. hipincognito

Happy 1st birthday to your blog! ๐Ÿ™‚

  76. Kelly

Jess, what a fantastic idea. Congrats on your blog birthday! I think “give” “share” or “fly” would all be great on a necklace. Short, simple, but conveying much meaning… and different meaning to different folks!

  77. Annie

Happy birthday to your blog! I love reading it to help me with my goal of maintaining a positive outlook every day.

I would love to have a piece of jewelry that say “Confiar y Creer” (Sanish for trust and believe)as a daily reminder to trust in myself and my abilities, and to believe that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.

Actually, the message would be great to have in English.

  78. Nicole

I love your jewelry! Happy Blog B-Day.

    I have a few:
    Be Uniquely You
    Be True
    Live Today
    Starts with a Dream
    Love Without Expectations
    Love Without Restrictions

I also LOVE “Lots & Lots” “Bunches & Bunches” that is what my fiancรƒยฉ and I say to each other to express how much we love each other.

  79. Anna

congrats!! here are a couple of ideas:
    *live simple
    *enjoy yourself
    *it is what it is

  80. Melissa

Happy 1st birthday MML! I received a pair of JessLC earrings as a gift and have been a huge fan ever since. I would love to wear on a piece of jewelry one of my two favorite phrases – “simplify” which reminds me to cut out all of the nonsense, much along the lines of your addition by subtraction philosophy. “This too shall pass” is another of my faves. I tell myself this daily as I am living in Michigan and most certainly experiencing the effects of this much-to-be-desired economy. Take care and keep up the great work!

  81. Danielle

I’d choose “Want what you have” as a reminder of one of my favorite quotes: Happiness Is Not Having What You Want, But Wanting What You Have.

  82. Kelly

    Happy blog birthday!

    Choose Happiness
    Embrace Your Joy
    I also like “Be Present”

  83. Caroline

Happy Blog Birthday! Your site is so calming and informative for me. Wishing you all the best in the future. My message would be “Courage”

    Thanks and happy 2010

  84. April

Happy Birthday – great blog and great giveaway! What about “Mom” or “Mother”? It might not be inspiring to everyone, but it is very inspiring to me (I have a 3 year old and newborn).

Also, what about “Grateful” or “Gratitude”

  85. Stephanie

Congratulations! I purchased one of your necklaces last year and LOVE it – wear it every day ๐Ÿ™‚

I agree with another commenter – I love “raison d’etre”!

  86. jspin

    Congrats on all your success!

    What about the term: retrospective.

It actually fits your current one year celebration, looking back on all you have accomplished.

  87. Casey

I love Ram Dass’ famous idea of “be here now”

  88. Lisa

Happy 1st Birthday. Love your jewelry. I think “Cherish” would be my intentional message. Cherish each minute, hour, day; Cherish the time you get to spend with family and friends. . .

January 26th is my 40th birthday – a Jess LC would be a WONDERFUL gift ๐Ÿ™‚

  89. Happy blog Birthday! Congrats on that!

I’d wear a necklace with “look then leap” on it. I sometimes hesitate on the leaping part but am never disappointed when I do.

  90. Bonnie Sue

Happy Birthday! All the best for your future!! Your jewelry designs are truly lovely. My suggestion for wearable words is FAITH.

  91. Happy Birthday!

I have a necklace that says “inspire.” I bought it when I started teaching. It gives me good energy.

Since you are a make-under site, “simplify” might be nice too

  92. Kelly

Congratulations! My suggestion is “just breathe”…it can get you through so many things.

  93. By no means my own idea, my favorite line is from my favorite movie. “Love actually is all around”

Another one I like is “mean it”. (As in mean what you do, do what you say) or for the particularily sassy “Clever Forever”

  94. Sue Ader

My suggestion would be “seek happiness”. Who needs anything else?

  95. wdt

Your blog is the first I check everyday…I love it. Thank you and congratulations on a wonderful first year.
My mantra for 2010 is “breathe”. 2010 brought lots of changes and new schedules and added stressors, so I am trying to remember to breathe, come back to my intention for the day and do it gracefully. So that is my submission for a necklace: breathe.

  96. Jillian

Thank you for your wonderful blog and happy blog birthday. I have found your blog very inspiring.

I second the “less is more” suggestion. Or perhaps something along the lines of your interview title: “design your life.” This phrase speaks volumes to me about living with intention: thinking things through, making choices and decisions that align with your goals.

  97. Alissa

    or Transform

Lately I’ve been very focused on evaluating my career, life and attitude and making positive changes to transform myself!

  98. Amy

Jess, I’m so proud of you! You’ve come such a long way in the last year. Happy Birthday to MML! ๐Ÿ™‚

  99. Christina

hi! i would love to enter and i think “just be” or “enjoy” is an intention i would wear to remind myself to relax and love life. stress less!

  100. Miss E

I would say “Keep Faith” or “Inner Grace” would be ones I would wear. But what about “Simplify”…something that goes along with MML’s mantra?

Happy Birthday to MML! Love reading your blog!

  101. It won’t surprise you that I’m re-reading the 7 habits, and I’ve written down one message from the book so far.

    Love is a verb.

It’s 4 words. Is that ok?

Perhaps due to the book, I’m also thinking, “I choose.” It’s such a powerful statement to me, because it’s an affirmation of your person-hood.

  102. Oh! I can’t believe I forgot c’est la vie (that’s life). I grew up hearing my mother tell me that.

And, choose joy. Ok, enough from me!

  103. Dawn

I would pick my word for 2010: “peace”

  104. Kristen Stubbs

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I’m happily wearing my in bed necklace I got for Christmas!

I would chose “Enough” I’m sure many of you have read the e-mail where the mother visits the daughter and wishes her enough.

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish enough “Hello’s” to get you through the final “Goodbye.”

  105. Becky

I said it yesterday’s post but I’ll say it again today: Patience!

  106. CB

    Hey Jess!

I like the word, “Harmony” or the phrase “Live in Harmony.” Of course, I am biased because there is musical implication… but beyond that, I like the concept of looking at the greater picture and finding your place. Living harmoniously – peaceably and amicably – amidst others and the world. ๐Ÿ™‚

  107. Briana

I love this idea and I love the past peoples comment about “life is beautiful” and “be present” I would wear something like that. Keep up the amazing work, you’re so inspiring!

  108. Daniel B.

    Happy Birthday!

I think a very appropriate message is, “Let Our Love Shine.”
It reflects the mood that LOVE should permeate through every aspect of someone’s being…in their attitude and behavior, as well as everyday activities.

  109. Val

I have a thing for signs and just about anything that has a message to remind me to live an open, honest, fun, creative life. My favorite sign that hangs in my bathroom so I read it first thing in the morning says, “She who laughs…lasts.” So that’s my message!
I love it and it’s such a true statement. No matter what the situation, if you can laugh, it will make it at least a little bit better. I believe we often take things too seriously in life, sometimes losing sight of the bigger picture. This is a great reminder to me to be strong, patient and ENJOY life. ๐Ÿ™‚
Also, thanks so much for your blog. It’s my fave…you inspire me!

  110. Heather

    Happy Birthday!

Well for me, my new job working with Alzheimer’s patients and watching them struggle with memories and the most simple tasks has really touched my heart over the last few months. So i would definitely wear a necklace that said “remember” to remind me not only to keep a tight grip on my memories, but also to remember that we shouldn’t take our memories for granted and that we all aren’t all as lucky to have memories at all.

  111. Erica

    I really like

    “Be Love”

To be the embodiment of love, to give it, to get it, to go after it. To surround yourself with love from from friends, family, pets but also from activities you love (art, design, music, dance). I think if we all focused on what love means to us and be that embodiment, we would all have an awesome 2010!

  112. Joy

    Happy Happy Blogiversary!

    “Find Your Joy”

  113. Diana

    Happy blogiversary!

I’d love the classic “Keep Calm and Carry On”
    and also “Stay True”

  114. merium

I like ‘inspire’ and also ‘focus’ and ‘believe’ Another phrase I like is from ‘Saving Private Ryan’~’earn this’ A reminder that we should earn our lives and not take living for granted…

  115. Margaret

Congratulations & Happy Birthday to MML. My suggestion is: “Challenge Yourself”.

  116. nicole

congrats!!! mine would be “Peace is the answer”

  117. lydia

    congrats! and happy blogiversary

my personal kind of mantra is ‘stop hurrying; listen more’. works on me anyway.

  118. Rebecca

Wow!!! Congrats and Happy Birthday. You are an amazing woman with so much inspiration, so mine would say…”inspire”. However, i also love “power”. I feel women in business have so much power and some more than they think they do!

  119. Megan

Happy Birthday MML!!!! Jess, I am so proud of all your achievements! Congrats to you! You have so many wonderful thoughts to share with the world, and you’re doing a great job sharing them! ๐Ÿ™‚

The message I think is important to always remember is “equality”. It can apply to so many situations, and I think is so important to remember each and every day! ๐Ÿ™‚ (along with many of the other messages/words that have been posted) So many great ideas I have no idea how you will choose!

  120. KB

    Happy Birthday!

My intentional message would be “Be Strong” or “Stay Strong”

  121. Bonnie

Congratulations on your year anniversary! My sister told me about your jewelry…it’s beautiful. Suggested intentional message: “blue skies”

  122. Teri

    Congrats on your anniversary!

I love what everyone has suggested for the intentional messages.

I used a personal situation, the loss of my younger brother and the grief I have gone through to come up with a message.

Reflecting on my brother’s life and passing, these words have helped me prioritize whats important in life and how to achieve and inspire your dream…thats what he did in such a short amount of time!

  123. Yay! Congrats on 1 year–and what a year it’s been!!! Here’s to many more full of wonder and excitement ๐Ÿ™‚

As for my intentional message, I’d have to say ‘persevere’, because sometimes when things get tough, you’ve just gotta put your head down and muddle through to the next stage! Feel like I’ve been doing a lot of ‘perservering’ lately…

  124. Lydia

Justice. It is the one thing I am most passionate about and what I devote my time towards!

  125. Congrats on your Birthday and on your interview!! What a wonderful year you are having and with “Spring” too, I love it!

I would have to say “Create Today” would be my intention. Its all about creating the life you want or even as simple as the day you want….doing what makes you happy and remembering YOU have the power to chose what your life looks like. If that means living a creative life, a happy life, a fulfilled life…create it for yourself! Plus it reminds me of what a true “CreateGirl” is!

  126. Katie

Congrats on your blog anniversary! Here are a couple of my suggestions: ‘achieve balance’ ‘don’t worry, be happy’ ‘om’ ‘live and learn’ ‘me + you’ and ‘be true’

  127. Congrats! I am a little obsessed with the word “love” right now…so that’s what I would go with. ๐Ÿ™‚

  128. erika

My intention for 2010 is “listen”.
Congrats on a year of wonderful posts!

  129. Cathy

Hi Jess! Congrats and happy birthday. We had a project in high school where we designed pendants with a one word intention/reminder. Mine said “Laugh.” It’s a reminder to not to take myself too seriously, have fun, and enjoy life. You could also have one that says “enjoy life.”

PS – I have a few more exfoliations to send you, including one with an entertaining story.

  130. Lise

Jess, this is a brilliant idea. I would love to have my year’s mantra on a necklace. But I’ve also enjoyed reading everyone else’s ideas.
    These would be my suggestions:
    let it go
    be open
    have faith

Congratulations on a great blog which frequently inspires me!

  131. Fiona M

Happy Birthday Jess! You are truly an inspiration and you should be proud of yourself for spreading such positive thoughts to your friends out there! You have come up with the greatest idea and I admire you for that!

If I had to wear a message on a necklace, it would simply be: “Hold to the love that you know”

There is no better feeling being loved and loving someone and holding on to that feeling to get you out of anything, physically and mentally.

    Be well <3

  132. marie

how fun to read these comments! My message would be “together” – a daily reminder about community and the strength of relationships.

  133. Goody

congrats. i am lovin your blog.

my intention always in my life is to just ‘live the moments”

  134. Heidi Lyn

So much growth and progress in ONE year! Amazing. I’m sure it’s a result of your optimism, direction and energy. Congratulations.

My intention this year is: Love First

I live in a colder culture and have found that instead of responding with more frustration and crankiness it’s better to smile and say “dobry den” (good day) to the people I pass on the street. Remembering to love first is hard, but already in just under three weeks, I’ve seen the results of this wonderful intention.

  135. Congrats on the birthday! I love reading your blog and am excited for what’s to come.

I have two ideas for messages, one probably being mentioned already: ‘Believe’ and ‘Quiet Your Mind’.

  136. Bridget

Jess, Happy Birthday, Love your jewelry that I purchased while visiting Chicago from CT. Not only are the pieces unique, they are a reminder of wonderful vacations to the city. My words for 2010 are faith and believe.

  137. Jessica

This might be a bit long but my suggestion would be “Faith Moves Mountains”. Thanks Jess!

  138. Erin

Happy birthday to MML, and congratulations on your success. Your blog is a source of continual inspiration.

I would love to wear a piece of jewelry that simply says “yes”.

  139. Cassie

I’d love to have a necklace with the phrase “live in love & simplicity”

    Happy blog birthday!!

  140. Andrea

Happy Blog Birthday. That’s a nice milestone. I would suggest “tiny steps” or “smile”…

  141. Erica

I also really love the idea of having the reminder “balance” as a necklace. My mum is always, always telling me to be more balanced in my life!

  142. Kristi

Congratulations on your anniversary! I’m loving what I’ve read so far – I also like “transform”, “look up”, and “be brave”. Keep up the great work!

  143. Anna

congratulations! my message would be “breathe” I always stop and remind myself to throughout the day because often times I realize I’m holding my breath and even if I’m not it usually refocuses me. Being aware of breathing also helps me become more mindful of whatever situation I am in.

  144. Beth

You already have a lot of comments, so I know there’s a good chance that my suggestions have already been said, but here’s what I’ve been thinking about:

-classy & fabulous (from that coco chanel quote that every girl seems to love)

-faithful & true (this could mean different things to different people, but it’s a description that is used of Jesus in the book of Revelation (Rev 19:11), and I love it for that reason!)

-believe you me (I remember as a kid trying to figure out when to appropriately use this in a sentence because I thought it sounded cool, lol — but I always smile when I hear people use that phrase for some reason)

-lost & found (as a Christian, this one has significant spiritual implications for me, but I assume it could have deep meaning for many for different reasons)

-bellissimo (Italian for very beautiful or very pretty, I believe) or amore (Italian for love)

-all will be well (attributed to Julian of Norwich)

-living hope (from 1 Peter 1:3)

-live your dream (this one is appropriate for your business!)

I’m excited to see what six you pick! ๐Ÿ™‚

  145. keyla

Congratulations and keep up the great work. You are an inspiration to me.

  146. keyla

+ my message would be: “have fun”. it is simple but often forgotten. We sometimes try to accomplish too much and forget about the other aspects of life that are important. I know I do it but I’ve been working on it ๐Ÿ™‚

  147. Cassie

I came across another mini-quote that I think would be PERFECT for this jewelry line: “Keep calm & carry on”

  148. Kelley

I think I would like a necklace that said “joy in simplicity,” as a reminder that life is not about always acquiring more and doing more. That joy can be found in quietness, and peace in contentment.

I want to live my life by the principle of simplicity, but as we all know, our culture is not particularly encouraging of that. So having a daily reminder to wear would be really awesome.

  149. jamie

Hi, It’s always so inspiring to see a person follow their passion. Thank you on behalf of our collective one for doing that.

    Some thoguhts…

We’re all love or it’s all love

no pasa nada (no worries phrase from spain)

  150. I would probably choose something along the lines of “Let go” because I am constantly worrying about little things that don’t really matter. Otherwise others I would choose are “Love all” to encourage me to find the good in every person I meet, “God’s gift” to remind myself that I am (as well as every human being) a gift from God and that my life is also a gift from God, “Bliss in everyday life” to remind myself that everyday life is happy and beautiful if I choose to live it that way, “Dream bigger” to not only encourage myself to dream big but to always reevaluate my dreams and make them bigger because I don’t think I should ever settle with myself or my life at the bare minimum. This is a great giveaway!

  151. Dee

Thanks for your email and congratulations of the anniversary of the blog! I’ve been reading it for a while now, and I come back to it for its positivity!

I think my intentional message would probably be ‘Sunrise’ because it evokes beginnings and light, which I want to be at the heart of my life – I hope that makes sense!

    ANyway congratulations Jess!

  152. Toula

might i say that i am consistently inspired by reading your blog? i stop by on a regular basis. congratulations on celebrating one year! you also have some very inspiring readers and it’s been very encouraging to read all of the submissions.

here are a few intentional messages i hope to live out in 2010…

    serve wildly.
    expect surprises.
    and most importantly…
    fall in love with hope.

  153. Marilyn

Jess, You have been a wonderful inspiration to both of my daughters whom you know well…Mikaela and Becki. Both have spoken with exceptionally high regards to you! You have given them hope that they will fulfill the future that they both want to have, as you have done so much already in your young life! Thank you for that!

With that, my message would be “inspire those whose lives you touch”.

Thank you for bringing joy to Chicago!
