mystery package and over-the-top gratitude

So I have a story to share and a lesson learned. Yesterday my package guy, Andres, called and said there was a big delivery that just came in. Normally, this isn’t strange at all.

Except I didn’t order this box.

I had no idea what was in it, or who sent it. But this is what I found inside:

And if you are really observant, you might remember this boot stand from Kelly + Olive’s Mood Board for my apartment:

Luckily, due to the shipping invoice, I discovered the mystery sender’s identity. I realized that a few weeks ago I inadvertently did a favor for her. My favor eventually led to a new business opportunity for her, and as a thank you, she sent me this adorable gift.

Due to my minor role in the situation and because I was happy to do the favor for her, any thank you would have been more than enough. A thank you note would have even been over the top, in my opinion. But instead she went digging in MML and found this stand I wanted and ordered it on my behalf.

The Lesson Learned

I am mentioning this here on the blog because the over-the-top gesture made an incredible impact on me. I feel incredibly grateful for the thought and generosity that went into this gift. And I’m so excited to pass it on. Making someone else just as excited, overwhelmed, and happy receiving something out of the blue will help me continue to feel grateful myself.

And I highly recommend doing something similar for someone who has helped you (recently or years ago). I am just starting to make a mental list of people who deserve an over-the-top/out-of-the-blue thank you.

Speaking of gratitude, our first Spring video blog is online! Check it out here.

Wow – What a wonderful gesture. Moments like these are so important, because they force us to take a step back and really think about how we can, in turn, make a positive impact for others. And you so deserve it!

  9. What a beautiful post! It is amazing how much a small gesture can make someone’s day!

  10. I have been follwing your blog for a few months now and really enjoy it – as it is unique and I love your philosophy on life. Years ago my husband and I received a surprise package like you did. It really made our day when we found out who our mystery sender was, not only because it was such a nice surprise, but it affected us in such a positive way that someone made such a special effort to say thanks. It changed us and now we try to do the same for others.
I am really looking forward to Spring – Good Luck with it.
