six fall wardrobe updates

SixFallWardrobeUpdatesThis fall I’ve been pretty careful with my clothing purchases in order to stay on track with our savings goals.

Thanks to awesome sales, store gift cards, and a handful of J.Crew Factory coupons, I’ve been able to get six new pieces that are fun to mix into my regular wardrobe while staying on budget.

The first update is a fall classic: the cozy cream sweater. I got this waffle version at J.Crew Factory and will wear it into the winter as well.

These next two items are my new fall favorites. I’ve seen the sparkle necklace (similar) and button-down shirt look for a while and wanted to try it out. I love how the crystals make the masculine plaid a little more girly.

To be honest, I wasn’t crazy about the embellished sweatshirt trend at first. But when I spotted this simple and less expensive version at Loft on sale, I decided to give it a try.

Though I styled the sweatshirt here with the black skinnies, I think it will be even cuter paired with a skirt, black tights, and booties.

As for the black skinnies, they are my new go-to pant. They instantly make any outfit look just a bit more polished.

And then of course, there are the super comfortable black booties. Clean, simple, low heel, and great leather.

As I mentioned on Monday, I am currently traveling around Boston and New Hampshire for a little belated birthday trip for Mr. Lively. If you’re wondering what I packed for the long weekend, just take a look above!

Hey Jess, I love your fall looks. Where did you find you black skinny jeans? I’m looking for a work appropriate pair that can be dressed up or down. Thanks!

    1. The black skinny jeans are the matchstick style by J.Crew. I love their matchstick style so much in blue, that I got them in black, too. They are TIGHT though (but they do break in as you wear them). So I’d only suggest them if you really want that skinny look. I find that I actually look bigger in other styles now comparatively, so I stick to the matchstick now. : )

I waited until they had a store-wide sale to get them since they aren’t super cheap.

Like Maureen mentioned, your additions are smart. I am also getting very smart and creative with my budgets and outfits lately. Also where is the skirt from? The navy blue one, it caught my attention.

I need to invest in a new plaid shirt for the fall. It’s hard to purchase too many things for the fall since we don’t really have one in Arizona. 🙁

    1. I can imagine! My brother lives outside of Phoenix and says that the summer is like winter there in that everyone stays inside and doesn’t leave – much like Chicago in the winter.

  4. Julie Kapaska

Cute! Especially love the basic cozy sweater – it will go great with almost any scarf.

Random question – do you know what your Myer’s Briggs personality type is? I’m facinated with it and would love to know what your type is!

    1. Very true. I have a polka dot sweater that would look adorable with it.

I’m an ENFJ. Let me know what you think about that / is it what you thought. : )

      1. Julie Kapaska

        I can totally see that!

“ENFJs are people-focused individuals. They live in the world of people possibilities. They understand and care about people, and have a special talent for bringing out the best in others. They are focused on understanding, supporting, and encouraging others. They make things happen for people, and get their best personal satisfaction from this.”

Yep, sounds about right 🙂 I’m an INFJ, but really want to work on balancing my introverted side…

        1. I would say so, totally sounds like me. : )

I have a lot of INFJ friends, though! Crazy how I know more people in that personality type than any other. (Mr. Lively is ENTP.)

I absolutely adore your fall wardrobe updates and love how you are able to assemble cute fall outfits while keeping a budget. Thanks for the inspiration.

    1. Thanks, hun! It might still be in stores (and hopefully on sale!). Someone else mentioned that Old Navy has the fancy sweatshirt styles, too. : )

  6. Courtney Elizabeth

Love that plaid shirt! I also jumped on the sparkly sweatshirt train with one from Old Navy. I love it, but it’s way more difficult to wash than a sweatshirt should be!

    1. Oh man. I haven’t gotten to the washing part. I did notice that it said to do it inside out in my shirt. I’m thinking I might put it inside out in a mesh bag and put it in the laundry with other items. What did you decide to do with your’s when washing it?

      1. Courtney Elizabeth

I’ve done once inside out on delicate with just a few items, and once in a mesh bag. The second time, I did end up losing a crystal I had to sew back on. From the picture, though, it looks like yours is a little more low-key than mine. Good luck!
