To show my gratitude for your support throughout 2013, I have five gifts planned for you over the next five days!  There are no outside sponsors or companies associated with these gifts. They are simply from me, to you.

 

After working with Intention Session clients over the past few months, I have realized that a lot of the times there is one thing that really causes the most havoc in our lives.

That one thing tends to block our joy and stops us from moving forward. It creates the majority of our stress and anxiety and if we can find a way to live intentionally in that one area, our lives would significantly change.

With this in mind, I have created a new Intention Session offering. It’s called (as you might guess) the “That One Thing Intention Sessions.”

In these sessions, we will replace “shoulds,” stress, and guilt with custom intentions and inherently fulfilling goals, actions, and outcomes.

No pain, shame, or “one day” thinking required.

The Intention Sessions focus on one of the following four areas:

  • Possessions/home/clutter/organization
  • Personal habits/me time/health/wellness/best living practices
  • Relationships
  • Career/small business

I believe these sessions are a powerful way to start 2014. It’s time to move forward in these areas intentionally.

To help kick off this new offering, I am giving away two scholarships for the Week of Giving!

    This is the area I could use the most help with going into 2014. As a full time student/single Mom to three boys – one with Autism – I definitely have put my own health (mental + physical) on the back burner, Ready to make a change in the upcoming new year!!

    If I were to win, my “one thing” would be me-time. Between college, running a small business, planning large events, working two full days a week for a different company, teaching pole, blogging, and everything else that adds up, I can’t remember the last time I did something that was all for me.

    The next year is going to be a milestone for me as I plan my wedding and possibly move to another country in August / September as my fiance is applying to business schools around the world. As I’ve never left my hometown, this is extremely daunting to me, and a focus on my personal health needs to be paramount in the next few months. I definitely could use the help figuring out the best ways to do this!

    Honestly, I would benefit from support in any of those areas, but I would say the #1 priority would be business. 2013 was a helluva year. My job ended, I got totally dumped, I sat alone a lot, and my car got stolen 3 hours before my birthday (which I spent on the couch). I was let go from my job as a high school teacher and took it as my sign that it was time to dive head first into my business…but instead, I did nothing. Well, I did a lot of things, actually, but six months later, I have no business and nothing to show for it. In the process of leaving the job, I lost almost ALL of my friends in the city and have spent my time sitting alone. I feel if I got started with my business, it would improve the rest of my life because I’d feel confident meeting people again and maybe I could make a friend…or even a boyfriend. I’d also feel a sense of purpose again and like my life had value–not that watching Rachael Ray doesn’t help people, buuut… 😉 The lonely birthday was a huge wake up call that it is time to get my life back. Finally going for this would really help the rest of my life to flow.

    I would love to end 2014 with a better relationship to possessions/home/clutter/organization! Recent separation and pending divorce has thrown my life and home into complete chaos! I find myself up at night wondering where important documents are or going months without being able to find a favorite belt!

    Tough choice, but I would have to go with Possessions/home/clutter/organization. Between joining my “stuff” with my now-husbands “stuff” a year and a half ago, plus moving twice with him, it’s just a cluster of clutter! We moved back in September and we still have boxes laying around PLUS a whole storage of THINGS that don’t fit in our current rental. We don’t plan to be here too long, but next time we move I want there to be less clutter and more organization of stuff that is actually needed/used.

    I would love to focus on relationships. I am by nature a very introverted person and therefore need a lot of time to myself. But, I realize that it is important to form deep relationships with other people. It is difficult for me to keep meaningful relationships with others for an extended amount of time. While I want to have friendships that last a lifetime, they only seem to last for a short few years because we just seem to naturally grow apart. I don’t feel lonely because I always have people who stand by me, but I do feel lost because, other than my family, I don’t have people who have known me for a very long time that know what I truly feel and need to hear.

    For me it would definitely be relationships. Far too often I find myself irritated with my husband or children for “demanding” my time. I really want to figure out how to enjoy the time I spend with them instead of viewing it as a chore 🙁

    I think I would choose relationships if I won. I feel like if I can understand how to approch and deal with them correctly a lof of the personal wellness and “me” will fall together after that. I am looking at 2014 as the year of fresh starts as I moving into a new place and taking a break with my guy. Thanks for offereing this!

    I’d love to focus on best life practices/personal habits as I find myself using social media and my time online with intention and not just getting sucked into pinterest/twitter. I find I waste so much time with unnecessary and unfulfilling things.

  11. I would focus on my personal habits and health/wellness. Because of a chronic pain disorder, I was on a medicine that caused me to gain 30 pounds very quickly (and it didn’t even help with the pain!). And then I got so discouraged, that I sort of “gave up” and added another 15 pounds. I know it’s insanely cliche, but my #1 goal for 2014 is to get healthy. Yes, I want to lose weight, but more than that, I want to start healthy habits, like eating better, going to the gym, being active, and in general just doing things good for my soul (like yoga, meditation, etc.). I used to always like the way I looked, and now I rarely let anyone get a picture of me and I have no self confidence when it comes to my looks, which affects almost every other aspect of my life. It’s like I’m going through middle school at 26! So there it is…my one thing.

    I would pick personal habits and me time. I’ve realized lately that the source of all of my stress in all areas of my life stems from money (or lack thereof). Although recognizing it was a huge step, working with it has been much harder, and I feel I put myself last because of that. I’d like to figure out a way to work with that stress, rather than against it.

    As I’ve seen from the other comments, these are all great topics so it will be hard to choose. I’m torn between personal habits and professional career. I think I will go with the career/small business though if I had to choose one. I currently have a professional career and a personal blog, and while both are going well, I constantly think about starting my own business, even if it is just on the side. It takes a lot of mental energy to constantly think and dream and I’d like to make 2014 the year that I put some goals in place and actually take some action. That way I can stop thinking about what could be and know that I’ve tried! It would be great to have a coach who could hold be accountable. Fingers crossed!

    I’m in the “almost there” phase of opening a private practice, but still need help with basic entrepreneurial and business skills, i.e., time management, bookkeeping, marketing, keeping my sanity…

    Definitely would pick Relationships! I am blessed by my husband and daughter but find myself stressed by both of them way too often (like daily!!) and that carries over in how I deal with my family and friends. I LOVE people and when I got married, we had a baby and moved to the country and it’s been very challenging for me to interact with others. I desire to overcome that thinking of “one day I’ll have better relationships when I move back to the city” and start being engaged NOW!

    I know that this may seem a bit selfish but I want to focus in me. The last three years have been hard (really hard). The kind of hard that make us question everything, everyone, everybody… every situation. Our life. My life. I’ve tried to build myself up all by myself and by just picking up the pieces of what was left and I am beginning to believe that I can do it… but for that I need to find myself again + love myself + build and have new dreams. May I dream?

    1. That is NOT selfish at all! In fact, you can only GIVE what you HAVE yourself- so focusing on you is the first place to start (the only trouble is if we never leave that place to focus on others later on).

  22. I’m only 20 years old, but I feel as though the almighty dollar completely rules me. Throughout my life, my family has always struggled with finances. We’ve dealt with bouts of homelessness, job layoffs and chronic unemployment.

    When I trace my current stresses, the one common denominator seems to be money. It’s what I lose sleep over, where my anxiety lives. The constant thought of “will I make rent this paycheck? will this bill be paid? how will I return to school?”

    I would like to focus on just one thing: financial stability. A thought that many 20 year olds aren’t concerned with, but is essential for my survival. I know that I am skilled and focused enough to start a small business, and help to sustain myself and make my quality of life better. I believe an intention session with you could help me map out and plan for making this a reality.

    I love your giveaways they are so great and mean a lot to me as a reader. If I were to win i’d choose health/wellness. I’ve lost over 80lbs and have slowly put it back on. When I lost it I had so much motivation but I’ve been unable to get back on track. And when I’m overweight I’m pretty down. I miss how I used to feel.

    that one thing… love the idea of intentionally distilling my fears/anxieties/worries into “that one thing” that is holding me back from accomplishing my “make it happen” list. for me, it’s tackling sentimentality so that i may let go of items causing me to feel cluttered. my dad passed away unexpectedly, and so the few items that I have that remind me expressly of him (a coat he bought me, for example) are treasured. But now I can’t seem to let go of anything that loved ones have given me… it’s as if i’m storing up memories. compounding this issue is my limited budget- i feel that getting rid of clothes that don’t fit me now or pantry items that i don’t really like is wasteful – one day, i might need them and so i save them. this seems to hold me back from embracing the white space that i so desperately crave in my life! So excited to find out who wins this amazing opportunity. Your generous heart is such a gift to so many!

      Regardless of whether you win this session or choose to work with me on your own in the future (if that is something you’d like to do), I highly suggest taking photos of the items that remind you of your father that you do not need/use/love in your life or see in your optimal future. You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned you don’t want to lose the *memories* – it has nothing to do with the cloth, thread, or physical materials that are in the things themselves. Perhaps by taking photos and creating a memory book online or printed it might help you retain what is most important (the sentiment/memory) and let go of what is cluttering your present moment reality and best life now. : )

      The career/biz part of the Intention Sessions are about finding a way to work it into your life and how to incorporate more intention and meaning into your actions there but are not based on strategy, marketing, or other biz consulting related topics.

    The alarm blares. Saliva pools in the corners of my mouth as I peel my creased face from the carpet and woozily take in my surroundings. What the hell am I doing on the floor? An all nighter. No, no no.. not the one you’re thinking. I’m only in middle school at this point and I’ve pulled an all-nighter to finish a project I’ve started on the night before. Surrounded by poster board scraps and markers, I take my finished project (a mere shadow of my grand plans) and look it over. I’ve know about this for a month but this will do.

    This will do. Procrastination and complacency. It’s a pattern that I have yet to break through and I would love your help with it. It creeps into every facet of my life. I will be 30 in February and I’m tired of living half-assed. Having you help me with Personal Habits, Health and Best living practices would take me to the next level. I’d like to live whole-assed and I think you can help me.

    Clutter is a major stressor in my life, causing a suffocating and hopeless feeling. It sounds strange, but clutter is also comforting to me. It keeps me distracted from other responsibilities. The few times my space has been clean and airy, I felt so amazing. But I also felt unable to manage all of this free space and time. So slowly, the clutter comes back into my life and so does the stress. I would love the opportunity to work with you to break out of my clutter rut and learn to use (and enjoy!) the open space in my home and mind. Next year I’m determined to enjoy my life and live my true intentions and clutter is my biggest obstacle in making this happen. Thank you for this opportunity!

    I’d focus on time management/personal habits/best living practices (all as one focus – not sure what to call it!). While there are other areas of my life that I need to improve, this is the one I really need help with. My life is fairly unidimensional (all work all the time), and while I have down time I have no idea what to do with it!

  43. Oh, it’s hard to choose which one! Things have been so all over the place in my life recently, I feel like I could use help with lots of this stuff. Though, I think I’d probably have to say career/small business. My job has recently reached the point where it’s draining almost to the point of debilitating. I’ve been looking for a new job and submitted a couple of applications, but nothing has panned out yet. A new approach to job hunting that would land me in a job I’d really love and enjoy would be the best Christmas present.
