the seven habits book club

The Book Club registration is now closed.

Please note: On January 15th I made changes to the pricing structure of the club. Instead of a fixed cost, all proceeds of any amount will be donated from this book club to Charity: Water, bringing water to people in developing nations.

Please feel free to donate as much or as little as you like. Once a donation has been made you will be included in the club. And if you prefer not to donate anything, you may email me at jess(at) to join.

For the past four years I’ve shared countless times here on the blog about the impact that one particular book has made on my life and intentional journey. I have re-read the book almost a dozen times in the past seven years and I attribute much of my personal and professional growth to the wisdom within this dog-eared paperback.

Likewise, when people reach out and ask for help with their life or business I endlessly recommend they study this book written by the lovely Mr. Covey (who sadly passed last year).

This book, as many of you already know, is the incomparable The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.

And for the first time ever I ask you to join me in reading The Seven Habits in an online book club this February!

From February 4th through May 3rd I’ll be posting weekly prompts, encouraging discussion topics, hosting tea time, and sharing tips to help make these habits a part of our daily lives.

In addition to my guidance, book club members are encouraged to post and share how they are implementing these habits. I’m looking forward to the suggestions and stories members share which may help us all become even more effective in our careers and personal lives.

To respect members’ privacy and discussion, the book club will live in a private (secret) Facebook group.*

My hope is that this book club can spark thoughtful conversation and inspire action. Members may contribute to the discussions as frequently or infrequently as they like. And it is totally fine if people choose to follow the prompts and discussions silently.

Interested? Here’s a bit more detail about the book club.

The With Intention Seven Habits Book Club

  • Weekly prompts to spark discussion and habit application.
  • Open posting and group chat for members to share stories, suggestions, and reactions.
  • Weekly 30 minute “tea time” where I chat live and answer questions.
  • Additional links, quotes, and challenges that relate to the book content and habits.
  • Plus, a few other surprises along the way.

When: February 4th – May 3rd, 2013

Where: In a private Facebook group (you will be invited after you sign up)

New! Donation: Proceeds from this service will be donated to Charity: Water, bringing water to people in developing nations. You can donate as much or as little as you like (via the button below which will take you to PayPal). If you prefer not to donate anything, you may email me at jess(at) to join.

I’m so excited to connect with readers and clients in this new format! While I love helping people one-on-one and in live settings, this new online format allows me to work with people all over the world. Plus, I can’t wait to see what I learn from members through their insights on this beloved book.

So if you have been meaning to read The Seven Habits and keep putting it off, or if you love the book and want to chat with other intentionally minded people about the habits, now is your chance!

Let’s read together, shall we?

The Book Club registration is now closed.

* Initially the Facebook group will be “closed” in order to add participants to the club. Once registration closes on February 3rd, the group status will be changed to “secret” for privacy.

Can’t wait to “see you in the club”!

I will be having a baby mid February so I won’t have time to devote to this session. Please please do it again!! I would love to join!!

    1. Jess Lively

Congrats on le bebe! I’m sorry to hear you can’t join us though. We’ll have to see how the first club goes and consider having another. : )

I’m glad you like the idea and plan to do a live book club with your friends!

I am excited to have this book club online as it will be the first time I can truly work with people in a group context anywhere in the world.

I am choosing to charge for this because this is an extension of my career,

Merissa – I have to say I felt the same way at first, but then I realized that $30 is less than some single networking events! So $30 for three months of discussion, talking, and resources with like-minded people… it started to seem very, very worth it to me and I’ll be signing up!

I would like to say thank you for offering this as a free service. I was very excited about the book club idea until I saw the fee. Not because I don’t think your time is worth that amount but because my current budget allows no wiggle room for this type of purchase. I was disappointed but planned on reading the book regardless and implementing the habits. Now I will be able to enjoy and benefit from the many other people reading the book as well. So thank you for giving!

    1. Very nice! I’m happy to hear that. The book club has since ended. If you didn’t have a chance to sign up and be a part of it over the past several months, I sincerely hope you open the book and read it on your own. It’s an amazing piece of work and I’ve seen it do wonders in my own life firsthand.

Hi Jess. I have been following your blog for about a year now and I really look forward to reading it. Your ideas are thought provoking and fit in with a lot of the things I have been reflecting on recently. I have read the 7 Habits before but I am excited about the prospect of the book club and discussing how the habits apply to life. Thanks for setting up the club!

  5. Jessica Leitch

Just signed up! My dad raves about this book – excited to finally dive into it with this group.

  6. Chelle

I just made a donation (small but what I can spare right now) but then I got an error message! How do I know if I’m in?

    1. Jess Lively

Hmm… what is your full first name in the PayPal form? I can’t fine Chelle (if that is your full name) in the payments so far… is it Christelle by chance?

  7. This is perfect because one of my plans for the new year is to read this book! I signed up…(I think), but I got an error message as well: “Page Cannot Be Found.” Is this just because PayPal doesn’t have a page to direct us to and all is well? I’ll give it another go if my registration didn’t go through. Thanks so much for doing this, Jess!

    1. Jess Lively

No worries! Your registration went through! : )

  8. Is there any way to participate without being on facebook? I deactivated my account last year after I realized it was leading me to a lot of negative feelings about myself and the people in my life, and I’ve been really happy with my decision since then. Still, this sounds like an interesting group, and the book has been on my list for a while. Thoughts?

    1. Jess Lively

Unfortunately at this time the only way to see the content privately and in the group alone will be on Facebook. Perhaps you could make a new account without adding friends to the account?

  9. Jess Lively

Yep! You are in. So far it seems like everyone who has asked has been indeed signed up!

  10. This is such a great idea! I’m really excited about participating. I also got an error message after donating. Hoping it’s all good & set up as the others were. 🙂

    1. Jess Lively

Yep! I also just tried fiddling with PayPal to hopefully fix the error thing for future people as well. : )

  11. Kristy

I have to say that I am extra excited about starting this! First, this post was on my bday and I found it just as I was looking for some way to better myself this year… second, I found the book a few years ago on the ground and grabbed it, but hadn’t ever opened it. Serendiptiy!

    1. Jess Lively

Awesome, we’re happy to have you join!!!

  12. Jess Lively

Yes! I’m going to extend this until Friday. Then, it’s closed for good. : )

  13. Hi Jess, I signed up awhile ago (paypal Transaction ID: 378047342M571515D) but I never got an invited to join any sort of facebook group. Can you send me an email with the info? spillerena at gmail dot com. Thanks!

    1. Jess Lively

Hi Hun! I cannot seem to find your transaction ID, which might explain why you never heard from us?

Please email and Jen will help you sort things out. : )

      1. Hi Jess, I’ve sent two emails to the email above and haven’t heard anything. If someone could please get back to me it would be appreciated. My email is spillerena at Thanks!

        1. Jess Lively

So sorry about that! I checked our inbox and found no incoming emails with that address, which explains why you have not heard back! Jen will be in touch with you today!! : )
