wish i knew wednesday: why i changed MML to Jess Lively

Tomorrow on Wish I Knew Wednesday I’ll be sharing why I changed the name and url for MakeunderMyLife.com to JessLively.com and gave it a bit of a re-branding at the same time.

A few people have asked about how to choose a name for a company and I’ll be covering that in tomorrow’s email as well. In fact, I’ll also share when I think it could be a good idea to change the name of a company, like I did with MML.

I have been turning this over in my head for months and I was so intrigued to here why you made the switch. I’m feeling stuck.. I wish I could use my name but ??- I think it sounds boring haha. I started The Blooming Thread with a huge focus on sewing and embroidery but with the change and growth of my shop, it feels so limiting now. Especially since I’m not sewing so much anymore. You hit it spot on with the whole “weird 90’s email names” haha.. I don’t know where my brand will be in a few years so I want something I won’t outgrow. Maybe it’s time to give this some more thought. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and journey..

Hi 🙂 I signed up for the newsletter, but only after this one was sent out. I’m looking forward to next week’s but I would love to read this one, too. Is there any way to read past newsletters or look at an archive?

Thank you 🙂 And congratulations on your recent elopement — you were a gorgeous bride!

Ryan, I’m so happy to hear that the WIKW helped you! And yes, we all have those email addresses of our past, right?

Laken, I just sent you the email. : ) The rest of the archive will be available in a new format later this fall/winter.

Hi Jess! I’d love to read this email. It looks like you sent it out before I subscribed. I tried to grab it from your newsletter archives but they don’t go back that far. Any chance you can send it to me? 🙂

    1. Hi Brooke, I’m so sorry but this was a newsletter that was never made into a post to share. I can quickly recap my decision to change the name though: I was feeling restrained by the title of the site and wanted to be able to have the content flow with me as I grew as a person vs. sticking to one solo theme.

      I hope this helps!
